There are some sessions that feel less like a photo session and more like being invited into a little piece of someone’s world.
This mother-and-son session with Kayleigh and her son was exactly that.

I’ll admit, when Kayleigh asked me to photograph them, there was a tiny part of me that felt intimidated. Kayleigh is a photographer herself, and photographing another photographer can make you second-guess everything just a little. But then there’s Kayleigh, the photographer that captured my sweet Daisy's last moments before crossing the rainbow bridge. We're forever besties.
It was one of those beautiful summer evenings in the northern Shenandoah Valley where everything seemed to fall into place. The light was soft, the air was warm and these two were completely wrapped up in each other.
They ran barefoot through the grass. They laughed. They twirled. They played and soaked up every bit of that evening together.
And her son? He is freaking amazing. And always makes me laugh.
There was such an effortless connection between them. The kind that doesn’t need to be posed or directed. It was in the way they looked at each other, the way they laughed together, and in those little moments of pure joy that happen when a mama and her boy are simply having fun.
Those are the moments I love most; the ones that don’t feel like photographs being taken at all. Just memories unfolding in front of my camera.
Kayleigh, thank you for trusting me with these moments. And thank you for letting me witness this beautiful bond between you and your son.
I hope when you look back at these images years from now, you remember exactly how this evening felt: warm summer air, bare feet, big laughs, spinning in the grass and the simple magic of being together.
Some moments are worth holding onto forever. This was one of them.
