Family photo sessions shouldn’t feel stiff, rushed or stressful. My goal during each session is always to create a relaxed experience where your family can be themselves. The Northern Shenandoah Valley gives us the perfect backdrop for that kind of session: open spaces, beautiful light and a calm pace that helps everyone settle in.

A relaxed, guided experience

Most families tell me they feel a little nervous before their session and friends, that’s completely normal. You don’t need to know how to pose or worry about doing things “right.” I’ll guide you through everything in a way that feels easy and natural. I focus on movement, interaction and connection instead of stiff posing. Laughter is key!

Yes—kids are supposed to be kids

You don’t need to apologize for your children being energetic, shy, silly or unpredictable. Some of the best images come from in-between moments: laughs, hugs, running and real expressions. We let the session flow with your family’s energy rather than forcing perfection.

How long do family sessions take

Most family sessions last about 45–60 minutes. That gives us enough time to settle in, explore a few spots and capture a mix of candid and lightly guided images without overwhelming anyone, especially little ones.

What to wear

I always recommend keeping things simple and comfortable. Neutral tones, soft colors and coordinating (not matching) outfits tend to photograph beautifully in the natural light of the Shenandoah Valley. Most importantly, wear something that feels like you.

Choosing the right location

One of the benefits of photographing in the Northern Shenandoah Valley is the variety of locations available, from open fields to riverside views and quiet scenic areas. I help guide location choices based on your family’s style, the season and the kind of atmosphere you want in your images.

What I handle for you

You don’t need to worry about posing, timing, or finding the “perfect” spot. I’ll guide you through everything so you can focus on being together. My job is to make the experience feel easy while creating images that feel honest and connected.
